Day Of The Dead Theme

Just finished making a Day of the Dead bag for someone to give as a gift. Also just sold a Day of the Dead apron on my etsy shop. Just one Day of the Dead apron left in my shop. Boy I wish I had more of this fabric to make more. I sense a possible new theme for the coming new year.

Have I mentioned I want to start painting? Small paintings of decorative sugar skulls. I have painted in the pass so we'll see if I still got the touch. Won't know till I try it again.

Plus an idea for Day of the Dead crochet pins.

Oh the possibilities are endless. To many more ideas in my head.

The Craft Show Sunday

The craft show Sunday had a good turn out. I was surprised since it was on a Sunday. Everyone was so nice. Wouldn't mind driving down to Ypsilanti again or the Ann Arbor area. Note to self: check out future craft shows in Ann Arbor.

I was worried that I had to much, which would have meant I did all that sewing for nothing, as well as worried about not having enough. It turned out that I had just the right amount. The shrinky dink sugar skulls were a huge hit. Sold them all. The colorful ones sold first. Got lots of complements about everything. People really liked my little items as stocking stuffers.

My friend said maybe I should stick to a Day of the Dead theme. Seams to be a hit. Hmmm...what else to make with this great theme. I do have a couple ideas in mind for future projects.

We, my brother, friend Danielle and I had a fantastic time Sunday.

Next is to work on some projects and a couple oders/request.

Sugar Skulls

My sugar skulls made from Shrinky Dink shrink plastic. I used a sharpie on some and prisma colors on some. Worked out pretty well. I had made a few back in September for a craft show and sold them all. These are a new little bunch that will be going to the craft show coming up real soon.

I think I have all the sewing done for this up coming craft show. I'll be crocheting the night away tonight and most likely tomorrow night. Making some pretty simple scarves that look pretty snazzy. Those long narrow kind I keep seeing people wearing.

Mexican Lotteria Bottle Cap Magnets

Here are the bottle cap magnets. They are made from prints that were actually meant for scrabble pieces. These were printed from the computer and because of this I had cut the pictures out in rows then put a piece of packing tape over the strips. I did it this way so when it came time to pour the dimensional glue over them the print wouldn't run and look cloudy. After the packing tape step I just used a one inch circle punch to punch out my print, run the circle print through my xyron sticker maker, adhere the circle print to the inside of the bottle cap and last pour in some dimensional glue, I used Glossy Accents. It takes a good two days for the Glossy Accents to harden. I only waited one day so I was careful when I glued on the magnets to the backs. This time I used E6000 glue. This was the first time for me using this glue and I discovered how bad it smells. I think I'll stick with the hot glue gun. I'll be posting the sugar skulls soon, when I get a chance. They were fun making.

Busy, Busy!

I have just been so busy lately and now in a rush to really get things done. Soon I will be in the Whip Stitch Art & Craft Fair in Ypsilanti, Michigan. This event will be Sunday, December 5, 2010 and is being presented by the Ann Arbor Derby Dimes. Can't wait! (I get excited about any craft show I am in and the closer one gets the more excited I get).

So back to the busy part, and I don't care what anyone says, being tired is just tiring. I feel like I will never be un-tired. It's got to be this weather. Can't be because I'm sewing or crafting until 2 or 3 in the morning. Naw...okay, maybe it is.

Yesturday I made some sugar skulls out of shrink plastic for some necklaces and started on a few more bottle cap magnets with the Mexican Lotteria themed prints. Have a total of thirty full aprons made with a variety of printed fabric, made these a couple weeks ago. There are some coin purses in progress as well as crochet scarves. Still need to make a few more grocery style bags and then I think that will be it, unless of course I think of something else and I think I just did- crochet flower pins.

Time to get back to the sewing and crafting, which by the way I just LOVE!!! It's so satisfying and worth being tired for, in my opinion anyways.

Advent Calendar

Here is a close up of last Christmas' Advent calendar. This was the first one I made. I made little pocket like sleeves out of scrapbook paper using a stencil. These were hung from ribbon that was tied onto garland. I did put little individual wrapped chocolates in each sleeve. My son never missed a day, as usual. Not sure if I kept this, so I just may need to think of a new idea for this year. Every year my son looks forward to the Advent calendar. I only thought of this because I was going through my scrapbook paper.

Christmas Cards

Today I added some Christmas cards to my etsy store, lisanapiersews.etsy.com

I have so much Christmas scrapbooking paper it isn't funny. I'm not even that crazy about some of it anymore but I will find use for it. I will be making more cards and maybe some tags and whatever else I can think of. The sad thing is I want more, but oddly enough I have had good self control when it comes to the paper.

Now to think of something crafty to do for the rest of day that doesn't require a lot of thinking (my head hurts). Maybe I'll work on more cards.

Craft Show Enteries

Last week I sent in apps to two craft shows. So now I just wait and see what happens. The first one was for the Flint Handmade winter craft show, I don't think that's the exact name, that will be held on Saturday, November 27th. Not really sure if this will conflict with work. The second one is the Winter Fling-A Craft Thing that is being held on Saturday, December 11th in Ferndale, Michigan. I hear there was a lot of apps entered so even if I don't get the chance to be a vendor at this one I will still head down there to check it out.

In the meantime I am working on some more full aprons to take along to the arts and craft show on Saturday, October 16th at the farmers market in Clarkston, Michigan. This is the same place I have a few items on display for sale. Business seems to be on the slow slide at this place. They are doing some advertising in their local paper so I hope that this will be a good turn out.

What A Long Day

What a long day it was for me. To start off with I over slept and had a late late breakfast. Taking pictures for a craft winter show application was today's plan. Grabbed my things in a crate and headed outside with my handy dandy (phone) camera.

Since I was already taking pictures I just kept on with it and took more for my etsy shop. I even had an assistant/model to help out in a few pictures. What a great sport my son was. I promised no one would see his face, so he didn't mind. We had a great sunny day.

I had to take a couple pictures of the Our Lady of Guadalupe bags by the roses even though the leaves didn't look to good. These were the only good looking roses left. Don't know why I didn't think of this earlier this summer.

Then came to the posting of everything on etsy. I spent the rest of the night doing this. So time consuming even with a few short cuts. I feel bad I didn't notice I should have ironed a couple of the bags before taking pictures. Didn't see it on the camera phone. Still haven't figured out my real camera (it's not Lisa friendly).

So later this week I need to take care of the craft application since that was today's goal. It's okay, I have until September 30th to get it done. Also post three more things on etsy. I would be in heaven if all I could do is sew and create art and crafts. Well...now it's time for bed, have to go to work tomorrow.

Clarkston

Today we headed out to Clarkston Michigan to check out a Farmers Market that also has a Craft Market along side it. It was a small place but nice and cozy. My brother came across it an inquired about the local vendors, told them about my sewing and crafts and passed on information to me. So we headed out there with a few items that they ended up keeping to sell for me. I like their set up. Their craft market store is actually a green house with a white loose stone floor that extends to the outside farmers market. What you do is first see if they like what you create and if they do they will sell it for you. Nice and simple. Your fee is just $10 a week or $40 a month. They are open 7 days a week. So I'm going to see how it goes.

Halloween Greeting Cards

This evening after work I finally added four new items to my esty store. I took some pictures and what I added was Halloween themed greeting cards. They measure 4 3/4" x 6" and are made out of cardstock paper by Hocus Pocus, outside of card is textured black and the inside is smooth of a contrasting color which works out great for cards, that way you can add a message of course. All the cards are decorated with scrapbook paper and three layers of decorative paper flowers that are attached with a brad. I only added four card to my shop so far. There are a few more to add. They were so much fun to make and I'm just sad I ran out of my supply of the Hocus Pocus paper. I'm trying very hard not to buy anymore scrapbook paper and use what I have on hand. It's hard I tell you!!

Getting ready

Getting ready for the 4th Art From The Heart art and craft show that will go on Friday, September 10th. This will take place at the Lunch Studio downtown Flint during the Downtown Flint Art Walk.

Made some new items to take along. I made some Halloween cards since that's just around the corner. Also made earrings for the first time. Crocheted a few scarves. Bought some felt but still thinking about what to make with it. I've got something up my sleeve. I tried very hard not to buy any new supplies for these projects but can't help myself when I'm in a craft store. I am proud to say I did not purchase more fabric and did make a couple more aprons with what I had on hand (not buying more supplies and using what I have on hand should be my craft making goal).

So as you see I've been keeping busy AND have been enjoying the summer with my son.

After this upcoming art and craft show I will be submitting an app for the Flint Handmade Holiday show which will require the making of a few new items.

July 22, 2010
Two weeks ago I received in the mail that I was accepted to be a vendor in the 2010 Mt Pleasant Art and Craft Festival. Let me tell you, two weeks notice is not enough time to get ready for a show. I had taken a break from sewing since I was a vendor at my church fiesta the last weekend of June. That one went okay. Now I know what to expect. Everyone wanted aprons with pockets. Pockets, pockets, pockets. The full aprons were a huge hit. The half aprons, not so much. The bags were good sellers as well. Anyhow, I was taking a break since I know I plan on doing a lot of sewing again soon to be in a winter craft show. So, during the first week I did lots of sewing. I had to make up for the aprons that were sold. I made more full aprons with pockets, then I added pockets to the rest of the full aprons from before. Also made a few more little things to take along.

Then there was a little mix up for my day to be there. I did show up on Thursday per the mail info, I signed up for Saturday. If it wasn't for the rain on again off again there would have been some more people out there. It was a nice and quiet there. Friday and Saturday there was thunderstorms through out the day, so I guess it was a good idea I went on Thursday.

Today I have started on a few more full aprons to make up for the ones I sold. Friday, August 13th I will be vendor at the Art From The Heart show downtown Flint during the night of the Flint Art Walk. I'm looking forward to that. When the aprons are finished my next project will be the making of more bottle caps magnets. The next set will be Alice In Wonderland.

Another Sunday

Another Sunday has come and gone. I think I relaxed a bit too long today but I did manage to get some sewing done.

Here's a pic of my table set up from this past Fridays craft show at a farmers market. This unfortunately was a waste of my entire day. I sold one item. Hardly no one came to this event. Plus it rained on and off throughout the day.

Today I started sewing small bags. I got them started. If there's time tomorrow I'll add the straps. I'm thinking I'll have a table space at my church fiesta which is the reason for these little bags.

Monday, May 17, 2010

Today after work I listed the four small bags, I had taken pictures of, on my Etsy shop. These are Our Lady of Guadalupe printed fabric bags. They are small flat bags measuring 9 3/4" x 8 1/2" with a 7 1/2" long straps. These bags with the short handles didn't sell at the craft show, so I decided to try selling them on etsy. People loved them very much, but as soon as I mentioned the ones with the long strap they suddenly turn their attention to the long strap ones.

The fabric these prints came from had frammed blocks of four different prints. I think this fabric was meant for quilting because of the blocks. I decided to make all bags with it. I originally ordered an all over printed fabric but the company I was ordering from was out of stock and I didn't have time to wait since I had my first craft show coming up.

Oh, btw, I did bring my camera inside after all. Thank goodness.

Soon I should maybe do a how to make something blog. That would be good.

Don't forget to check out: lisanapiersews.etsy.com

My Sunday...

My Sunday today went pretty well. Was on and off the computer throughout day. Found another site to sell things on called bigcartel.com and I thought I'd check it out. I opened a shop named lisanapiersews.bigcartel.com and listed three aprons. I'll see how that goes. I did the free plan where you can list five items for free. I'll just patiently wait and see if anything sells.

I also took some pictures of aprons and small bags with my phone camera and my regular camera (and I'm wondering where I placed that camera, hope I didn't leave it outside). I actually like how the phone camera pics turned out.

And...I listed on my Etsy shop lisanapiersews.etsy.com four half aprons and one tote bag. After listing the fourth apron I noticed I could post my latest listing to facebook. This was my excitement of the day, believe it or not! It was exciting to me as well as my sister. So then I listed one more item, a tote bag, and showed it off on facebook.

Tomorrow after work I'll try listing the bags I took pictures of.

Until tomorrow....bye bye!

Picture of Elvis Coin Purse

Hello Out There!

Hello out there! I'm just fine and dandy. I just listed a new item on lisanapiersews.etsy.com of an Elvis coin purse. This is my fifth added item. I know, what's taking me so long. Well pretty much all week it has been raining and today it's been on the cloudy side. Too bad I didn't get to take pictures earlier but I was preoccupied. Let's hope tomorrow will be a good weather day.

Today I will actually sew. Well tonight since its already evening.

SOOOOO.....or should I say sewwwwwww....time to get to the sewing machine.

Tootles,

Hello, I'm Lisa

Hello, I'm Lisa and this is my first blog right here if you don't count MySpace. I will be blogging about my sewing, crafting, art, or whatever catches my eye for the day, but maybe not everyday.

Saturday, May 1, 2010 I was in my very first craft show ever!!! It was very exciting to me. The show was the Craft Spring Market by Flint Handmade and I was located in the Loft in Downtown Flint. I did okay, being that this was my very first craft show. I noticed that people liked the Elvis and Our Lady of Guadalupe aprons and bags. Which brings me to thinking about having a table space at my church fiesta. Should I do it or not. I did order some more fabric a few days ago but received a phone call about it being out of stock but they will get some more in. So I will have to patiently wait.

Hmmm...what else can I say...
Oh yes! This past Sunday I set up an Etsy shop finally. On Monday I posted my first four items which were four crochet flower pins. Took the pics with my handy dandy phone camera since my "real" camera had dead batteries. The pics turned out alright. Haven't had a chance to take anymore pictures this week due to the rainy days we have been having. I want to take the pics outside using the natural sunlight.

Well I guess that's about all for today. I need to think about getting some sewing done.

Happy sewing or whatever it is you have planned.

Almost forgot>>> my etsy shop is: lisanapiersews.etsy.com
